Performance remapping, described in the simplest terms, is a software overwrite which lifts manufacturer restrictions to improve engine power and torque. Located in Shepperton, our workshop uses one of three staged processes to remove factory-set parameters and replace them with enhanced software. We achieve this through a car’s ECU using diagnostic tooling.
Dare Maps can undertake performance remapping at our premises in Shepperton, but we also offer a mobile service to customers in Kingston, Staines and the many surrounding areas.
Here, we explain the three possible stages of an ECU remap:
The purpose of first-stage performance remapping is to optimise brake horsepower (BHP) and torque. It also provides a sharper throttle response and higher rev range. Stage 1 remaps are safe to install without any additional hardware changes.
We add 10-35% to your vehicle’s existing power, whatever that may be.
Stage 1 remaps are also available with extra modifications.
Stage 2 performance remapping adds another 10% of overall power just from the map. This type of remap can shorten the lifespan of tyres, brake parts and transmission components. While engine and gearbox lifespans may shorten slightly, we do not consider this a major factor.
A Stage 2 remap gives our customers in Kingston, Staines and all areas around Shepperton the chance to remap for better performance without any concerns over running costs.
Hardware changes that must be done alongside stage 2 performance remapping are: uprated intercooler, uprated cold air intake and sports exhaust.
Short bursts in performance for safer overtaking and climbing hills will do no harm to engines, gearboxes and turbochargers. Constantly pushing your car to the redline, however, rapidly increases wear on moving parts.
This remap offers a 20% gain on naturally aspirated engines and a 40% gain on engines with a turbocharger. Even though we overwrite the factory software, a Stage 2 remap keeps your car safe to use in built-up areas and heavy traffic conditions while staying inside emission and roadworthiness standards.
Stage 3 is a bespoke tuning service, so you will have to speak to us in person to discuss your entire vehicle setup.
Stage 3 performance remapping requires substantial hardware modifications and you can expect another 10% of power added to the vehicle’s overall existing power.
If your vehicle is for off-road use, we can provide additional services to enhance power, such as DPF removal.
Motorists in Kingston, Staines, South West London, Surrey and Berkshire can also depend on Dare Maps for AdBlue solutions.
